Our Commitment to the Environment
In 1990, Canadian Pacific Hotels (now known as Fairmont Hotels & Resorts) undertook the development of a green program for all of our hotels in Canada. Our aim was to institute the highest possible standards of environmental responsibility throughout the industry. A chain wide employee survey was distributed and based on the positive response, Phase I of the program was launched.

Almost 10 years later, Fairmont Hotels & Resorts has expanded internationally and continues to strengthen its commitment to the environment with the implementation of Phase II. Our policies in the areas of energy efficiency water conservation, purchasing, and waste minimization continue to win international awards and benefit our staff and society. Our new environmental incentive program 'See the Forest AND the Trees' encourages staff to participate in our charitable programs such as 'Adopt a Shelter' and endangered species programs such as 'Be my Beluga.' The development of environmentally responsible meeting alternatives, 'Eco-Meet' and 'Fairmont Green Tours' further demonstrates the Fairmont environmental success story.
